If you have some experience using video calibration discs, you will probably find that you can use these patterns to do a quick set of adjustments by just selecting each pattern in order, optionally reading the help text, and making adjustments to the display and/or player controls. You can also move to the next or previous pattern using the Left and Right buttons on your Blu-Ray Disc player remote you do not need to exit back to the menu to change patterns.
The Video Calibration section of this disc contains just the core patterns needed to do the most common calibration operations on a consumer display. I wish it would have been a menu setting, but my understanding is LGE did not like that because it does a mode switch (black out) when turning on and off, so they tied it to an input label.Thank you for purchasing the Spears and Munsil HD Benchmark, Second Edition! We believe this is the most comprehensive and accurate suite of video and audio tests available, and we hope you will find it to be a valuable addition to your video library. One of the gaming modes does not use 5:5 as Vincent found out in some recent testing.īottom line, try it and see what happens. This assumes Cinema mode is the picture mode used. On the G1, it still runs in 5:5 for 24p sources, for example, just disables the control itself.

It does disable Real Cinema, which is 5:5 mode for movie playback.

I use it for the Panasonic UB9000, OPPO 203, Xbox One S and Apple TV 4K since those are my external sources. You don't have to send in RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4 also works. The fact that a 4:2:0 source is improved with 4:4:4 tells you their up/down conversion is not lossless.ĭon't let the name confuse you. It may do this more than once, but that is just an assumption. So if you send 4:4:4 in, it converts to 4:2:2 and back to 4:4:4 before final display. This basically tells you those controls work in 4:2:2, which is why they are disabled.

One nice thing about PC mode is that it grays out all the controls that don't work in that mode. If it does not work, easy enough to change the label back to what you currently have it set to. Trying to address all the shortcomings of the current disc. Not every pattern has right/wrong images, but they will at least have basic description text.
I forgot to mention, we have pop-up help working again on the new 3-disc set.

On the C9 and below, you get 8-bit, but on CX and C1, you get full 10-bit like non-PC mode. (Not the text, the icon) Then you can change the text to what you want. To get into PC mode, hold down the input button for an extended period of time. The dimming means roll-off of high frequency detail. In PC mode, the brightness will be uniform. In normal mode, the left and right thirds of the zone plate will be dimmer than the center. It will still improve movies if you look at the chroma zone plate on the disc. They fixed the bit-depth issue and it will give you true 4:4:4 chroma, which will benefit the games since they will have true 4:4:4 resolution vs. I would recommend running the CX in PC mode.
